What a frightening example of remediation: the blog remix of Olia Lialina’s classic net art narrative My Boyfriend Came Back from the War. The original piece is an authentic 1996-style hypertext that uses frames wonderfully to gradually unveil an uncertain narrative constructed in words and images and links. It’s been remixed many times, but this is the worst example I’ve seen. It really demonstrates that blogs are not the best way of telling every story. The original piece is worth a look, if you’ve not seen it before. It’ll take 5-10 minutes to read.
