The lunar eclipse tonight (or in English) is being webcast (of course) and there’s a camera right here in Bergen aimed at the moon. It’ll go live at 00:45, but the actual eclipse is from 02:06-02:35, Norway time. The moon will look crescentish for a while before and after that. Oh, and it’s a beautiful, clear night, perfect for moon-gazing.

Thank you! It’s cloudy in L.A.

I’m at work late on a Saturday night (I took off during the day last week, so I need to make it up.)

I am watching the eclipse in Denver now, from my office window. As the moon went under a soft charcoal shadow, fireworks sprang from somewhere near the city center. (I work in a large office buildingon the west side of town, so I see all of Denver…)

How odd it is that we need to punctuate something this quiet and lovely with fireworks and fast paced blasts. Perhaps we are still prey to ancient fears, and need to drive away the demons who are stealing our moon.

Or perhaps people just want a good time.

It would be awful if they did steal the moon…

It looked pretty cool, bloodred, but it was cold out there. So I didn’t stay out for long. No fireworks 🙂

They find that the Chinese machine vision imaginary is global, blue and competitive.  De Seta, Gabriele, and Anya Shchetvina. “Imagining Machine […]

Do people flock to talks about ChatGPT because they are scared?

Whenever I give talks about ChatGPT and LLMs, whether to ninth graders, businesses or journalists, I meet people who are hungry for information, who really want to understand this new technology. I’ve interpreted this as interest and a need to understand – but yesterday, Eirik Solheim said that every time […]
